KIM MINSE

삶과 죽음은 오랫동안 나의 작업을 이끌어 온 근원적인 질문이다. 초기에는 외부 세계 속에서 인간이 마주하는 자유와 존재의 의미를 구체적인 형상으로 붙잡으려 했다.

점차 시선은 내면으로 향했고, 눈에 보이지 않는 존재의 심연을 탐색하게 되었다.

관심의 중심 또한 이미 완성된 형태를 넘어, 존재가 태동하고 생성되는 과정 그 자체로 옮겨갔다.

화면에는 세포를 닮은 구조와 혈관처럼 뻗어 나가는 흐름, 오랜 시간에 걸쳐 자라나는 동굴의 석주를 연상시키는 형상들이 공존한다.

서로 다른 구조들은 일정한 규칙 없이 뒤엉켜 있는 듯 보이지만, 그 안에는 생명이 형성되기 직전의 움직임과 에너지가 응축되어 있다.

이러한 혼란은 질서가 부재한 상태가 아니다. 오히려 새로운 질서가 태어나기 직전의 순간이며, 새로운 구조가 생성되는 가장 역동적인 상태이다.

나는 불안정함 속에 잠재된 가능성과 생성의 에너지에 주목한다.

동굴의 석주는 눈에 보이지 않을 만큼 미세한 물방울이 오랜 시간 쌓이며 형성된다.

거대한 형체는 어느 한순간 만들어지는 것이 아니라, 수없이 많은 작은 순간들이 축적된 시간의 결과이다. 나의 작업 역시 완성된 결과보다 그러한 생성의 시간을 바라본다.

화면 속 형상들은 서로 충돌하고 얽히며 끊임없이 변화하고, 그 과정에서 새로운 연결과 구조를 만들어 낸다.

내가 그리고자 하는 것은 완성된 질서가 아니다. 질서가 막 형성되기 직전, 수많은 가능성이 공존하며 생명력이 가장 강하게 진동하는 순간이다.

그 찰나는 인간과 자연, 그리고 우주를 관통하는 생성의 원리이자, 존재가 끊임없이 변화하며 이어지는 가장 근원적인 모습이라고 생각한다.

Life and death have long been the fundamental questions that guide my artistic practice. In its early stages, I sought to capture the meaning of freedom and human existence through recognizable forms in the external world. Gradually, my gaze turned inward, leading me to explore the invisible depths of existence. My focus shifted beyond completed forms toward the very process through which existence emerges and comes into being.

Within my paintings coexist structures reminiscent of cells, flows that branch like blood vessels, and forms that evoke stalactites and stalagmites slowly formed within caves over immense spans of time. Although these diverse structures appear tangled together without any apparent order, they contain the condensed movement and energy that precede the birth of life.

This state of chaos is not the absence of order. Rather, it is the moment immediately before a new order comes into being—the most dynamic state in which new structures are formed. I am drawn to the latent potential and generative energy embedded within instability.

Cave formations grow through the accumulation of microscopic droplets of water over countless years. Their monumental forms are not created in an instant but are the result of innumerable small moments layered through time. Likewise, my work is less concerned with completed outcomes than with the passage of becoming itself.

The forms within the canvas continually collide, intertwine, and transform, giving rise to new relationships and evolving structures. What I seek to depict is not a completed order, but the moment just before order takes shape—a state in which countless possibilities coexist and the vitality of life resonates with its greatest intensity.

To me, this fleeting moment embodies the fundamental principle of becoming that connects humanity, nature, and the universe. It reveals the most essential condition of existence: one that is in constant transformation, endlessly unfolding and renewing itself.

무의식적 표현과 유기적 구조, 그리고 존재의 본질을 탐구하는 시각 예술 작업을 진행하고 있다. 세밀한 선과 중첩된 구성 속에서 질서와 혼돈, 우연과 의도가 교차하는 긴장감을 탐색하며, 예측할 수 없는 삶의 리듬을 시각적으로 구현한다.

자연의 형성과 변화, 미시적인 입자 구조, 그리고 양자적 움직임에서 영감을 받아, 개별적인 요소들이 모여 더 큰 조화를 이루는 과정에 주목한다. 세포나 쿼크처럼 독립적으로 보이는 선들은 서로 연결되며, 끊임없이 변화하는 거대한 흐름을 만들어낸다.

자발적이면서도 의도적인 선의 움직임을 통해, 작품은 단순한 형태를 넘어 지각, 시간, 공간의 대화 속으로 확장된다. 가까이에서 보면 조각난 듯한 형상들이, 거리를 두고 바라볼 때는 유기적이고 조화로운 서사를 드러내며, 존재와 변화, 그리고 무한한 가능성에 대한 탐구로 이어진다.

시각적 경험을 통해 존재의 본질과 보이지 않는 구조 속의 가능성을 탐색하는 예술적 실험을 지속하고 있다.

The artistic practice explores the relationship between unconscious expression, organic structures, and the essence of existence. Through intricate lines and layered compositions, the work investigates the tension between order and chaos, chance and intention, visually capturing the unpredictable rhythm of life.

Inspired by natural formations, microscopic structures, and quantum movement, the process examines how individual elements come together to create a larger, interconnected whole. Like quarks or cells that appear independent yet remain part of a greater system, each line contributes to an evolving flow that reflects the continuous transformation of reality.

Balancing spontaneity and intention, the work extends beyond form, engaging in a dialogue with perception, time, and space. Up close, the compositions may seem fragmented, yet from a distance, they reveal an organic, cohesive narrative—an ongoing exploration of existence, change, and infinite possibility.

This ongoing artistic inquiry seeks to uncover the essence of being and the unseen structures that shape our reality.

FLOW

무의식에서 흘러나온 선들은 스스로의 흐름을 따라가며, 내면 깊은 곳에 잠재된 감각과 마주하게 한다.

그 선들은 의식의 통제를 벗어나 자유롭게 흔들리고, 불안정한 시대의 파동과 자연의 혼란스러운 숨결을 함께 머금는다.

그 안에서 생명은 형태를 잃고 다시 태어나며, 끝없이 이어지는 움직임 속에서 서로의 경계를 스며들듯 넘나든다.

이 흐름은 물이 되어 흘러가고, 바람이 되어 흔들리며, 산의 결과 파도의 리듬이 겹쳐지는 몽환적인 풍경을 만든다.

때로는 세포의 진동처럼 미세하고, 때로는 대지의 호흡처럼 느리게 이어진다.

그 모든 진동 속에서 세계는 조용히 변하고, 나는 그 변화의 결 속에서 선을 긋는다.

멈추지 않는 선의 움직임은 사라지는 것과 남겨지는 것 사이, 그 어딘가의 경계를 드러낸다.

작업은 정해진 형태나 계획에서 출발하지 않는다.

무의식에서 피어난 감각이 화면 위에서 서로 스치고 흩어지며, 예기치 않은 구조와 흐름을 만들어낸다.

그 과정 속에서 우연과 질서, 혼란과 조화가 공존하며 화면은 스스로 살아 움직이기 시작한다.

나는 그 진동을 따라, 세계의 미세한 숨결 속으로 스며든다.

이 작업은 자연의 모양이 아니라, 그 속을 흐르는 감각의 결을 좇는다.

그 안에서 선은 감정의 떨림으로 남고, 나는 또 하나의 흐름이 되어 그 내면을 유영한다.

The lines flowing from the unconscious follow their own rhythm, guiding me to encounter the sensations hidden deep within.They move freely beyond the control of consciousness, carrying both the tremors of an unstable era and the restless breath of nature.Within them, life loses its form and is born anew, crossing boundaries as if seeping through one another in an endless motion.

This current turns into water that flows, wind that sways, and a dreamlike landscape where the textures of mountains and the rhythm of waves overlap.At times, it trembles as delicately as a living cell; at others, it moves as slowly as the breath of the earth.Amid all these vibrations, the world quietly transforms, and I draw lines within the fabric of that change.The ceaseless movement of the line reveals a boundary between what fades and what remains.

My work does not begin from a fixed form or plan.Sensations blooming from the unconscious touch and scatter across the surface, creating unforeseen structures and flows.Through this process, chance and order, chaos and harmony coexist, and the canvas begins to breathe on its own.

Following that vibration, I immerse myself into the subtle breath of the world.This work does not depict the form of nature but traces the texture of the sensations flowing within it.There, the line remains as the tremor of emotion—and I drift within it, becoming another stream of its inner flow.

FREEDOM

현대사회는 예측할 수 없는 변화 속에서 인간의 삶을 끊임없이 시험한다. 급변하는 환경과 반복되는 재난은 소통의 단절과 자유에 대한 억압을 초래하며, 개인은 불안과 공허 속에서 자신의 존재를 성찰하게 된다. 주어진 질서 속에서 우리가 누리는 자유는 과연 온전한 것일까? 진정한 자유란 무엇이며, 인간은 그것을 어디까지 확장할 수 있을까?

자의식을 가진 모든 생명체는 자유를 갈구하며, 물질적 자유와 정신적 자유를 추구하는 욕망 속에서 살아간다. 그러나 현실의 틀 속에서 자유는 무한한 가능성이 아니라, 허용된 범위 내에서만 작동하는 제한적인 개념이 된다. 인간은 이를 당연하게 받아들이며, 정형화된 사회 구조가 허용하는 한도 내에서만 자유를 갈망하고 있는지도 모른다.

어항 속 금붕어는 이러한 인간의 삶을 은유적으로 반영한다. 한정된 공간에 머물지만, 자신이 갇혀 있다는 사실조차 인식하지 못한 채 유영하는 존재. 인간 또한 보이지 않는 규범과 구조 속에서 자유를 이야기하지만, 실상은 그 한계를 자각하지 못한 채 순응하며 살아간다. 어쩌면 금붕어가 자신의 상황을 이해할 수 있다면, 인간보다 더 순수한 자유를 누리는 존재일지도 모른다.

현대사회의 공허함과 불확실한 미래 속에서, 자연과 공존하는 인간은 어떤 방식으로 삶을 지속할 것인가? 지금 우리가 살아가는 세계는 끊임없이 변화하고 있으며, 그 흐름 속에서 인간은 존재로서의 자유, 사회적 편견에서 벗어난 자유, 그리고 죽음을 통한 해방에 이르기까지 자유의 의미를 확장하고 재정의해야 한다.

우리가 인식할 수 있는 가장 광대한 경계는 우주일 것이다. 하지만 우주는 어쩌면 쿼크나 세포 하나에 불과한, 또 다른 거대한 구조의 일부일지도 모른다. 모든 생명체는 생성과 소멸을 반복하며, 죽음이라는 ‘무(無)’의 상태를 맞이하는 순간, 비로소 궁극적인 자유에 도달하는지도 모른다.

자유에 대한 탐구는 끝이 없다.현재와 미래가 교차하는 상상 속 ‘꿈’의 세계를, 보다 열린 시선으로 응시한다.

Modern society constantly tests human existence through unpredictable change. Rapid environmental shifts and recurring crises lead to disconnection and restrictions on freedom, forcing individuals to reflect on their existence in the midst of anxiety and emptiness. Is the freedom we experience truly complete, or is it merely an illusion within a structured system? What does true freedom mean, and how far can humanity push its boundaries?

All sentient beings strive for freedom, driven by the desire for both material and intellectual liberation. However, within the constraints of reality, freedom is not an infinite possibility but a limited concept, defined by the boundaries set by society. We accept these limitations, often without question, perhaps only seeking freedom within the confines that structured systems allow.

A goldfish in a bowl serves as a metaphor for this human condition. It moves freely within its space, yet it may never realize the walls that enclose it. Likewise, humans discuss freedom while unconsciously conforming to invisible social structures and norms that shape their lives. If a goldfish could perceive its reality, would it be more free than we are?

In a world filled with uncertainty and isolation, how will humanity continue to coexist with nature? As the world around us constantly shifts, we must redefine and expand the concept of freedom—whether it be personal freedom, liberation from societal constraints, or even the release found in death.

The universe, as vast as it seems, may be nothing more than a single quark or cell—just a small fragment of something even greater. All living beings follow the cycle of creation and extinction, and perhaps, in the moment of confronting ‘nothingness,’ one finally experiences absolute freedom.

The search for freedom is never-ending.Looking toward an imagined world where the present and future converge, we find new possibilities beyond limitation.
